Home Stuff I've Made

Speaker Stands

In fall ’03 I made stands for my surround speakers:

In catalogs, you never see speaker wires dangling anywhere in the shots, but you always do at home.  I resolved to eliminate this by hiding the speaker wire inside the post:

The main support column is made from two pieces of oak glued together in a “T” cross-section.  Before gluing the pieces, I took one of them, ripped it lengthwise, cut the wire passage with a router, and then glued it back together.  Presto: no ugly wires dangling in plain view.
